How it works
Each relay waits for its own one- to four-digit code, in the mode you chose for it.
Inputs: Program audio (Bridging input), Programming phone (Powered RJ-11 jack). The DS-8: Codes of 1 to 4 digits; Momentary, latching or interlocked; Remote reprogramming over the cue channel. Outputs: Relays (Eight), VTRs and spot insertion (Typical jobs).

More about the DS-8
In latching mode a relay turns on with one code and off with another. Interlocked relays turn each other off, and their off codes still work.
